The most popular tourist activity of Huacachina is the sandboard and dune buggy. The tour begins with a ride in a dune buggy which moves rapidly up and down the marvellous dunes. The tourists who have experienced this ride call it a roller coaster. Then you get the chance to try sandboarding, an adventure sport getting popular by the day. It is similar to snowboarding and if you feel that it is getting too difficult for you, you can just lie down on the board and go sand sledding. A strong drink called Pisco is the national drink of Peru. This Peruvian brandy is produced in Ica desert. A wine tour would take you to a family-run winery where Pisco and red wine are produced. You can observe the fermentation of crushed grapes in clay jars, locally called botijas and hear stories of how the wine was created in the colonial era. The Ballestas Islands are a group of small islands in the Pisco Province in the Ica Region. The islands are an important sanctuary for marine fauna including the guanay guano bird, the blue-footed bird, and the tendril. Huacachina has pleasant weather all year long. However, if you plan to bathe in the sun and enjoy the oasis, the ideal time is December to March, since these are the hottest months. If you’re planning to hike, then May to November would be more suitable when the average temperature is a little cooler.
